Die Kleine Holzbiene (Xylocopa iris) baut ihre Nester nicht in Totholz wie die anderen Vertreter der Gattung, sondern in Stängeln von abgestorbenen Königskerzen (Verbascum spp.), sowie Korb- (Asteraceae) & Doldenblütlern (Apiaceae).
